This week we hosted a breakfast event in Victoria for our third-party partners in the beautiful Parlour Room at FORA Greencoat Place.
With President Trump in only his second month of office, he has arguably already received more media coverage than some presidents do in their whole term. Foreign policy and Trumponomics have featured heavily, both heralding potentially seismic shifts in global alliances and global trade.
At Connor Broadley we usually say that politics rarely have a significant impact on the markets but is the dominance of the US economy and the political power that Donald Trump wields making things different this time?
To give a current perspective, our Managing Director Alex Twiss interviewed Chris Wyllie our Chief Investment Officer, exploring how all of the above may, or may not, impact the markets and our own investment thinking in the short, medium and long term.
It was a fascinating discussion covering everything from tariffs and how they can be both inflationary and deflationary, to the fact that the economy Trump is inheriting this time round is very different to the last. Chris also took our guests through a summary of our current investment ‘traffic light’ indicators, and how these may be affected as the year and this presidency unfold.
Thanks to our guests for making this such a successful and well attended event, and to the team at FORA for looking after us so well.
